A week after starting their investigation into an what could have been an intended 'molotov cocktail' attack at a local house, Lac La Biche RCMP are looking to the public for help.
On Friday May 13, Lac La Biche RCMP members were called to a home along Churchill Drive in the Lac La Biche hamlet on reports that window had been smashed.
When police arrived at just before 9 a.m., they reportedly found a broken liquor bottle in the driveway of the home. The bottle had a rag stuffed into the top. Further investigation found another similar bottle inside the home near the broken window.
"There were some scorch marks found, but no active fire," said Lac La Biche RCMP Const. Cassandra Calverley, explaining to Lakeland This Week that police would not provide an exact address of the home, but that it in the residential area near the David Thompson statue and the boat launch.
In early March, the body of 21 year old Tytiana Janvier was found inside a home in the same area. Several vigils and rallies were held in the community in the days and weeks following her death, including a candlelight vigil near the Thompson statue. Police have not released any information on charges in relation to Janvier's death. Family members of the victim have said they have been told by police it was an apparent drug overdose.
Police say the house targeted in the recent incident was not occupied at the time, and no one was physically injured. Police say the fire department was not required to attend the call.
Calverley says that the Alberta RCMP Forensic Investigation Services have assisted with the ongoing investigation.
"Lac La Biche RCMP are asking the public's assistance for any information in relation to this incident — or identifying those responsible," said Calverley.
