'Immaculate' meal served at Portage College spaghetti supper fundraiser

Portage College’s annual spaghetti supper fundraiser on Oct. 21 was by all accounts a tasty success. Eric Germaine, among those at the supper, said he found the food served at the event "very immaculate."

ST. PAUL – Portage College’s annual spaghetti supper fundraiser on Oct. 21 was by all accounts a tasty success.

“We’re very happy with the turnout we’ve got today,” said Jason Sachko, Coordinator, Hospitality, Portage College, and “the fact that people come out again in a community event like this – it’s a win-win.”

Shandon Delver, a first-year student of Portage College’s professional college program, was among the students who served members of the community at the fundraising event. “It’s a really good experience to be doing this and I’ve never actually cooked for this much people before,” she said.

“Seeing just how much work goes into this made me appreciate caterers, cooks, and stuff,” she said, explaining how proper communication and teamwork is a crucial aspect when working in the kitchen, in addition to the challenge of “working fast.”

Other students involved in preparing Friday evening’s meal were Reno Jackson, Clareece Brereton, Gracie Oster, and Dusty Stuart.

Eric Germain, who attended with family and friends said he enjoyed his spaghetti and his two desserts, finding them “very good.”

On the same table as Germain was Slader Hardcastle, who said the food served at the event was “very immaculate.”

“It was just well proportioned and the [gingerbread cake] was very good,” said Hardcastle.

The final amount raised that will go toward the food bank is unknown prior to press deadline. However, Sachko said over 100 meals were served and expect the event will raise approximately over $1,000.
