Into the waves

Divers from a marine

The choppy, wind-driven October waters didn't stop professional divers from checking out some underwater Lac La Biche infrastructure over the the weekend.

A dive crew and boat were on and in Lac La Biche lake on Saturday checking on the water intake pipes that feed the municipal water system. The check is part of the regular maintenance of the system. A large water intake line to the treatment lift station at McArthur Park from into the lake about 400 metres. In past years, the intake has had issues with its screen and with anchors holding it in place near the lake bottom.

The work was carried out by a crew from Eckville-based Aquatech Diving and Marine Services.

The water services in Lac La Biche County include 120 kilometres of water lines that reach about 700 residential customers as well as another 400 users at commercial bulk stations.
