Intoxicated man assaults Bonnyville RCMP officers

Bonnyville RCMP Detachment SUMMER

BONNYVILLE – A 28-year-old man has had several charges laid against him following a string of calls made to RCMP reporting an intoxicated and aggressive male entering various locations throughout the Town of Bonnyville.

According to Bonnyville RCMP, on Oct. 20 at 8:15 a.m. RCMP began receiving back-to-back calls about an intoxicated man yelling and swearing at various locations in the town.

Police say, the man “was loitering in a local bank vestibule and became abusive to staff when they asked him to leave. He then chased and yelled at a high school student(s) until they reached the school and a teacher had to usher the students in and direct the male to leave.”

Following this event, the individual proceeded to enter “the Public Health office in the Provincial Building screaming obscenities at the staff there and inviting nursing staff to fight him. Lastly, he attended a convenience store, walked up to an employee and punched him in the face before fleeing on foot,” stated police.

Bonnyville RCMP conducted patrols and located the male near a business on 50th Ave. where he was arrested.

In the process of trying to apprehend the intoxicated man, the individual resisted arrest and head-butted the arresting officer.

“Once back at the Bonnyville detachment the male proceeded to assault a second officer during the booking in process,” continued the statement, released by police.

The 28-year-old man from Kehewin has been charged with assault, two counts of assaulting a police officer, four counts of mischief under $5,000, criminal harassment, resisting arrest, possession of methamphetamine and three counts of failing to comply with conditions.

He has been remanded in custody and is set to appear in court on Oct. 26.
