A troupe of dancers from the Kikino Métis Settlement will put Métis heritage in the spotlight today at the NHL Heritage Classic.

KIKINO - A troupe of dancers from the Kikino Métis Settlement will put Métis heritage in the spotlight today at the NHL Heritage Classic.

The Kikino Métis Settlement Northern Lites Dancers will be one of several regional performers featured at the outdoor hockey event that is taking over Edmonton's Commonwealth Stadium.

An estimated 70,000 people will be in the stadium for the outdoor hockey game between the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames.

The puck drops at 5 p.m., but the Heritage Classic events have been going all day. The Kikino Northern Lites dancers are sharing the entertainment lineup with Canadian rockers Nickleback.

The Northern Lites are well-known for their fast footwork, twirling Métis skirts and high-energy traditional jigging.

Lakelandtoday.ca and Lakeland This Week will have the full interview with Northern Lites veteran Trevor White following the Classic event.
