BONNYVILE - A La Corey resident is seeking the return of two firearms that had been seized by RCMP on May 12, 2021. Several other items that had reportedly been stolen were also seized by law enforcement at the same time.

In relation to the seizures, Alfred Douglas Tizzard had been charged with possession of property obtained by crime of $5,000, careless storage of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a controlled substance, and seven counts of possession of property obtained by crime.

During an April 26 court appearance, the Crown prosecutor indicated that all charges had been previously withdrawn. However, Tizzard and his counsel requested that two firearms that were seized be returned to him.

The court heard that the prosecution was agreeable to returning the firearms to the defendant if he could prove lawful ownership of the firearms within 90 days.

All other items seized would remain with the Crown.

The following condition was approved by the Judge: “The firearms shall be held in the custody of the RCMP for someone to attend with proper paperwork to pick up the firearms. If no one appears within the 90 days, the firearms are forfeited to the crown for destruction.”

Tizzard is next scheduled to appear at the Bonnyville Provincial Court on May 17, to speak to charges relating to an incident on Jan. 6, 2022.

Bonnyville RCMP and the Lakeland Crime Reduction Unit (LCRU) began an investigation on Jan. 5, after receiving a report of stolen property located on a property in La Corey.

The execution of two separate search warrants at the property resulted in the recovery of five stolen vehicles and an assortment of additional stolen property.

In relation to the January incident, Tizzard faces criminal code charges of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 (x5), mischief over $5,000, fraudulent concealment, and unlawful tampering with a vehicle identification number (x2).
