Lac La Biche County agrees to $35,000 for Plamondon Mud Bogs

Lac La Biche County council approved a $35,000 grant for the annual Plamondon Mud Bogs event taking place in July.
Local media, including the Lac La Biche POST’s Andrew Whitson and Kevin Penny, will get to drive the Ford Bronco Ailsbilly Deluxe at the Plamondon Mud Bogs.
The Plamondon Mud Bogs will be taking place from July 11 - 13. Lac La Biche County Council is contributing $35,000 this year instead of the usual $20,000 because they do not have sand to provide in kind towards the event.

LAC LA BICHE - Lac La Biche County council approved a $35,000 grant for the annual Plamondon Mud Bogs event taking place in July.

The Plamondon District Community Development Society made a presentation to council at the May 13 meeting. The information was taken for information and brought back for a decision on May 26.

“Traditionally, the County has allocated $20,000 in support of this event,” said Hafsah Mograhbi, the general manager of corporate services for Lac La Biche County.

“We don't have any sand to provide, so our recommendation is just to provide them the $35,000 as requested, and administration will be working with them to fulfill any of the other in-kind requests that they do have,” said Mograhbi.

Ward 7 Coun. Lorin Tkachuk supported the increased funding, but thought there should be some kind of incentive for groups to continue expanding their events.

“If there's new events, or if we're growing an event, that extra sponsorship potentially could be offered. I think currently, the way that our sponsorship model is created, it's very easy to get stagnant, because it's easy to resubmit the same paperwork for the same events, for the same budgets, or very minor adjustments to those budgets,” said Tkachuk.

Ward 3 Coun. Colette Borgun made the motion to “approve the $35,000 in event grant funding for the 2025 Mud Bogs event, to be funded from accumulated surplus.”

The motion carried with unanimous support.
