RCMP remove 'shelter in place' but say suspect remains free

RCMP say suspect in firearms complaint no longer in the area

Lac La BIche RCMP issued a follow-up news release early Wednesday morning saying they had lifted the 'shelter in place' caution for residents near the scene of a reported firearms complaint on Tuesday night.  Police had cordoned off a a section of Highway 55 near Range Road 165 southwest of Plamondon last night after reports that a suspect in a firearms complaint had run into the nearby bush.

While a person was not apprehended, RCMP are saying they no longer believe the suspect is in the area

Police say they will update the situation with more details when they become available.

Just before 11 pm Tuesday, Lac La Biche RCMP issued an alert to rural residents southwest of Plamondon to shelter in place while police investigate a firearms complaint.

RCMP say a male suspect has "run into the bush" with a firearm in the area of Range Road 165 and Highway 55.

"RCMP are advising residents near 16526 and Highway 55, in Lac La Biche County, to stay inside their homes until the matter is resolved," notes the late-night caution.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl Gina Slaney says police will remain in the area until the incident is resolved.

"There will be a heavy police presence in this area," she said.

RCMP are also asking residents to call 911 to report anything suspicious in the area.
