MALLAIG – Mallaig Fire Department paid tribute to former Fire Chief Bryce Bodnar who passed away on June 8. A Last Call ceremony took place on June 10.
Bodnar served the Mallaig Fire Department for 21 years, serving as a Fire Chief for eight years.
Mallaig Fire Chief Raymond Brousseau, speaking on behalf of former and current members of the fire department, spoke about Bodnar's legacy.
"You were a man of many helmets," he began. A firefighter, a captain, deputy chief, then a fire chief, but most of all, "A mentor to us all."
"You have taught us to be a big family... to always look out for each other," said Brousseau. "You have shown us how to stay strong, caring, [and] honest. [You were] a loving leader to all of us. We're truly blessed that you looked after us all and made us the men we have become. Rest in peace, brother."
Bodnar passed away at the age of 53.
