LAKELAND - Two students from Dr. Bernard Brosseau will have their poster designs with an underlying message displayed across the Lakeland Catholic School Division (LCSD).
Grade 6 student Ryann Friesen and Grade 8 student Tessa Ogloff were selected as the winners of the Mental Health Matters Campaign Poster Design Contest.
The theme for the contest was Bullying Awareness.
Friesen, who won the Kindergarten to Grade 6 category, says she entered the contest because bullying is a problem experienced in all schools and she hopes raising awareness will help put an end to it.
“I feel like we should try and stop it,” she said.
The winning design for the Grade 7 to 12 category, was influenced by the constant struggles those suffering from mental illness face, explained the posters creator.
“It stuck with me that you may not know what’s going on on the inside,” said Ogloff. “Just because on the outside someone may look happy, they may be struggling with a lot – that’s why I put don’t judge a book by its cover.”
The winning designs will be printed and displayed in all eight LCSD schools.
In addition to receiving framed prints of their posters, Friesen and Ogloff received swag bags from the division for their will works of art.
The Poster Design Contest is part of the LCSD’s Mental Health Matters Campaign, which is funded through a grant provided by Imperial Oil Cold Lake.
