ST. PAUL - A 29-year-old man has been charged with a number of offences after police were called to a report of an alleged assault that involved a firearm in St. Paul in the early hours of Nov. 4.
Shortly after 2 a.m. on Friday, St. Paul police responded to a 911 call near 50th Street and 46th Avenue regarding an assault that involved a firearm.
"It was learned that a male allegedly assaulted two women, and pointed a firearm at one of them. The suspect and victims are known to each other," according to St. Paul RCMP.
When police arrived at the scene, the suspect was no longer there and after some investigation police determined the suspect was believed to be inside a residence near 45th Avenue and 48th Street.
"Police believed the suspect had the firearm with him in the residence. After some time, the suspect left the house and was arrested. A search of the house did not reveal the firearm," according to police.
Ashton Pankiw, 29, of Elk Point, Alta., has been charged with numerous offences including assault, possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes, pointing a firearm, possession of a restricted firearm without licence or registration, and more.
Following a judicial hearing, Pankiw was remanded into custody and is set to appear on Nov. 10 in St. Paul Provincial Court.
