ST. PAUL - The sudden death of a former St. Paul resident who was once a much-loved member of the teaching staff at St. Paul Regional High School has left former colleagues, students and others who knew her in the community reeling from the tragedy.

Judy Morgan, 72, was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking in Stony Plain on the evening of July 12. The former Guidance counsellor and Fashions Studies teacher was transported to hospital where she was pronounced deceased from her injuries.

Parkland RCMP report the 32-year-old male driver of the vehicle remained on scene. The investigation continues. However, at this time, the cause of the collision is not believed to be criminal in nature, according to the RCMP media statement.

Retired Regional High School principal Noreen Brousseau remembers Judy well.

“She was there for the kids every single day. They were the most important thing to her – teaching or counselling or just saying ‘Good Morning’ - she was there for them. She advocated for every kid,” Brousseau said Friday of her former colleague.

“Sometimes she and I would have to fight about it for a while, but she was always right. It was about the kids and what was the best move for them."

Judy's husband, Keith, was the principal at Glen Avon School in St. Paul. They have two daughters, Brittany and Natalie.

"My heart is just broken for that family because she was the rock,” Brousseau said. “We are going to miss her and pray for them.”

The couple was well-known in the curling community for their love of the sport, and they were both avid competitors. Judy also coached curling at the high school level.

"It is just so hard to understand. I’ve talked to several teachers who were with us at the time. She mentored so many of us. You had a woe you’d go talk to Judy. She made it better, she made sense of things.”

A memorial service for Judy will be held Monday, July 25, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Spruce Grove.
