Music in the Forest opens series in Lac La Biche

Intimate performance features melodic trio

The opening performance of the Music in the Forest concert series was a successful one on Thursday night at the Community Facility at Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park.

With a chilly winter wind blowing outside, singer-songwriter Maddie Storvold — accompanied by musical friends Aline Deanna on the fiddle and Jill McKenna on the upright bass — kept it cozy inside. The trio entertained an intimate crowd of about 50 people with a list of melodic, original songs. Storvold, a 2019 winner on the CTV music showcase series The Launch, used her soft, yet powerful voice — and a good amount of humour — to entertain the audience through in a variety of stories and songs.

The Music in the Forest series is hosted by the local Alberta Parks office, and draws independent musicians from across Western Canada to perform at Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park. The next performance is slated for May, featuring Calgary-based band Two Late For the Party. That show will take place inside the park at the island amphitheatre.  Tickets for the upcoming shows — there are six performances scheduled in the following months — can be found on the Alberta Parks website. TIckets for each show start at $20.

The Lac La Biche show was one of 30 stops on a spring tour for Storvold's trio. The group will continue touring Alberta and British Columbia in the coming weeks. Storvold's music can be found on her website and Youtube channels.
