BONNYVILLE - Outreach workers Lil Cardinal and Hannah Casper, joined Jacki Kunec to collect a cheque from St. John’s United Church for the Bonnyville Outreach division of the Dr. Margaret Savage Crisis Centre (DMSCC).
The funds were generated from an Evening of Carols held at the St. John’s United Church on Dec. 12.
Kunec, who was the emcee for the evening festivities tells Lakeland This Week, “We always had a night of music. We had that for years and years until COVID came.”
With a small crowd in attendance, carolers and audience members raised $215 to give to the centre. “It’s not lots and lots, but every little bit counts,” says Kunec.
For the last 30 years, members of the church have supported the outreach centre by raising funds, making gift bags with toiletries, as well as knitting slippers and hats.
“The Night of Carols was a beautiful evening that really just reinforces just how fortunate we are to be thought of by so many community members,” said Cindy Yang the resource development coordinator for the DMSCC.
“Donations that we receive all find their way into a home where the women and children, and members of the community will benefit from it the most. Donations especially received around the holidays helps make others’ holidays warmer and brighter, and we are so grateful to be supported once more by Bonnyville United Church.”
Casper, an outreach worker at the Bonnyville DMSCC location, explains that the centre’s programming is run with funds donated by the community and received through grants.
This Christmas season people have been extremely generous to the Outreach Centre, she says, adding that people interested in dropping off donations can call the DMSCC main line and be redirected to the Bonnyville outreach location.
