LAC LA BICHE - The cause of Wednesday night fire at a residential trailer in the Bonesville subdivision south of Lac La Biche is under investigation.
No injuries were reported in the blaze that was called into to Lac La Biche County Fire Servcies at about 6:45 p.m.
Lac La Biche Regional Fire Chief John Kokotilo tells Lakeland This Week that no one had been living in the trailer at the time of the fire.
“It was deemed an abandoned structure,” said Kokotilo, explaining that the arrival of an ambulance crew at the scene was part of standard procedure.
“The ambulance is called to all structure fires also in the event of injury to one of our members,” he said.
The fire, which sent thick black smoke into the early evening sky that was visible for several kilometres, drew 13 firefighters from fire halls in Lac La Biche, Rich Lake and Hylo.
When crews arrived at the scene, the trailer was fully engulfed in flames. Crews needed about an hour to put out the fire and keep flames from spreading to the nearby wooded area. A large propane tank on the same property was deemed to be empty.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. There was no power or natural gas service to the property at the time of the blaze.
“The cause of the fire is undermined at this time,” he said.
