NLPS schools and offices will be recognizing Orange Shirt Day a day before the official recognition day.

LAKELAND - On Thursday, Sept. 29, each school and office in Northern Lights Public Schools will recognize Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to honour the survivors, descendants, and the victims of residential schools.

Day before No School Friday

The Thursday events are scheduled in NLPS schools a day prior to the official recognition day because Friday, September 30 is a scheduled No School Friday across the division.

NLPS officials hope staff and students will be able to join their families and communities on the No School Friday to take part in local ceremonies and events or to observe in whatever way is meaningful to them. Schools across the division will be hosting various events to recognize the annual day of recognition.
