LAKELAND - The Extendicare St. Paul support living facility is once again on outbreak status. On Monday morning, the organization confirmed that one of the residents who had tested positive has passed away.

In a statement from Kim Mercier, Regional director, Northern Alberta, 14 team members from Extendicare in St. Paul have tested positive, along with nine residents.

Twelve of the staff members' cases have now been resolved, and all residents have been swabbed, according to the statement, received on Monday.

Any residents who have tested positive have been cohorted and remain in their rooms.

"We are saddened to confirm one resident who had tested positive has passed away. We have been in touch with this resident’s family to share our condolences on behalf of our care team," said Mercier.

Extendicare is working closely with Alberta Health Services (AHS), CDC and Public Health during the outbreak. Positive case numbers during the fourth wave continue to impact communities across Alberta.

"Extendicare St. Paul is pleased to see the response to vaccination among our team members, with every one of our staff now fully vaccinated," said Mercier. "In addition, we have worked with our health partners to administer third doses to residents to ensure enhanced protections as per AHS guidelines, with all residents who have consented now having received their third shot."

The facility will continue to provide regular updates to the team at Extendicare and to the families of residents, while remaining "vigilant in our infection prevention and control measures."

The Bonnyville Extendicare also appears on the Government of Alberta's outbreak list. Happy House Daycare is also on the province's list, under "other facilities," as of Monday morning.
