Pathways to Employment sees graduation of first Saddle Lake cohort

Ten graduates recently completed the Pathways to Employment program in Saddle Lake.

SADDLE LAKE - Earlier this month, Saddle Lake Cree Nation saw the completion of the first Pathways to Employment project, done in partnership with Portage College.

A graduation event was held to honour the graduates as they celebrated their year-long journey of acquiring employment skills, career preparation, life skills and academic upgrading. The program also provided students with opportunities to secure job placements to showcase their newly acquired knowledge and skills, according to information received from Ruby Stone, Program Manager - Reinvestments.

A graduation ceremony was held on March 24 at the Saddle Lake Cree Nation Iyiwakes Cultural Centre, and 10 members from Saddle Lake proudly made their way to accept their certificates to the beat of the drum.

"Their determination and perseverance were rewarded," reads the information.

A second cohort of the Pathways to Employment program started on March 28, and will also run a full academic year, wrapping up in March of 2023.

"Saddle lake has always encouraged and supported its members to further pursue education and training, wishing the graduates all the best in their future endeavours."
