Police say shot fired in attempted break-in at Beaver Lake Cree Nation home

Lac La Biche RCMP arrest 16 year old teen in connection with early morning firearms complaint

BEAVER LAKE - A 27-year-old man and a 16-year-old youth will be making first appearances in court this week, charged in connection with a firearms complaint and assault at a home near the Elinor Lake Road on the Beaver Lake Cree Nation.

RCMP say that on Feb. 24 a just after four in the morning, Lac la Biche RCMP were dispatched to a report of a break and enter in progress to a residence on Elinor Creek Road at the Beaver Lake Cree Nation.The investigation revealed that an argument had ensued at the residence between the residents and and two suspects resulting in a male firing a gun. The suspects fled the residence in a vehicle prior to police arrival.

Police patrolled the area, patrolling to find the suspects and the vehicle. A short time later, RCMP say the suspect vehicle was seen driving past the original house at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was stopped by police and two occupants were arrested.

No members of the public or officers were injured during this incident.

As a result of the investigation, Lac la Biche RCMP seized a bolt action rifle, ammunition and a machete from the vehicle.

Tristan Bradley Campbell, 27, a resident of Beaver Lake, has been charged with 23 criminal code offences, including discharge firearm while being reckless, possession of weapon contrary to a court order; assault, assault with a weapon, and dangerous driving.

A 16-year-old youth was arrested and charged with pointing a firearm, failing  to comply with court orders, and assault.

Both Campbell and the youth were taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody. Due to the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the youth cannot be named.

Court dates for both of the accused are slated for later this week in the Alberta Court of Justice in Boyle.
