Popcorn day served up at Elite Theatre

ST. PAUL - Popcorn - the quintessential movie snack - was served for free on Jan. 19 during National Popcorn Day at the Elite Theatre. In celebration of the snack, the St. Paul Elite Theatre and St. Paul Regional Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) collaborated to give away free popcorn to community members who stopped by the theatre.

Members of the St. Paul Youth Council (SPYC) also helped by handing out the bags of popcorn, according to Brenda Billo, program assistant with the FCSS. She said SPYC meets once a month to organize events for the community, so "this is one of the events that they're promoting for the youth."

Sid Sood, manager with the St. Paul Elite Theatre, and a Town of St. Paul councillor, said popcorn is a staple at the theatre, and "movies are not great without popcorn." So, as a tribute to the snack on National Popcorn Day, Sood said the theatre decided to host the giveaway.

People of all ages took a few minutes on Thursday to stop by the theatre and grab a fresh bag of popcorn.

According to Lynn Smid, FCSS Director, over 100 popcorns were served during the event.
