Portage grads from across Lakeland campus locations cross the graduation stage

LAC LA BICHE - Last Friday, the Lac La Biche campus of Portage College was alive with pomp and ceremony as over 700 graduates representing 37 programs celebrated their hard-earned achievements by participating in convocation exercises.

The day-long calendar of events kicked off bright and early with the customary pinning ceremony for graduates of the Licensed Practical Nursing program. Following speeches by the Nursing faculty and Portage College administration, the newly-minted LPNs were invited onto the stage of the college's McGrane Theatre to receive caps, nursing pins, roses, along with hearty congratulations.

Afterwards, the main convocation ceremony for all programs took place in the college gymnasium, where a large crowd of family and friends gathered for the distribution of awards and diplomas. The convocation also included another long tradition, the honour ceremony, whereby all graduates were given eagle feathers and had the opportunity to have the sacred item blessed by an Indigenous elder.
