Public skating and shinny draw people to the Clancy Richard Arena

Public skating and shinny at the Clancy Richard Arena kept people active over the holiday break in St. Paul.

ST. PAUL – On Jan. 6, members of the St. Paul community gathered at the Clancy Richard Arena for an hour of ice-skating fun. The public skating event, available every Friday and Saturday, allows community members to bring their skates and enjoy the rink, free of charge.

According to Harvey Smyl, Director of Parks and Recreation for the Town of St. Paul, the regular schedule for public skating at the Clancy Richard Arena is 6:15-7:15 p.m. on Fridays, and 12:30-1:30 p.m. on Saturdays. The schedule is expected to continue until the middle of March.

Smyl noted that the schedule may be adjusted due to unforeseen circumstances, such as a power outage or postponed hockey game. In some cases, additional ice time may also be scheduled, such as days when there is no school, which was the case over the Christmas break.

In addition to public skating, the Clancy Richard Arena also opened shinny hockey last week, a fast-paced and informal version of the sport that is open to players of all skill levels. These events are typically scheduled when schools are not in session.
