RCMP arrest two men and seize weapons

St. Paul RCMP arrested two men and laid a number of charges on Dec. 12.

SADDLE LAKE - Two men were arrested and weapons were seized by RCMP on Dec. 12.

St. Paul RCMP were patrolling in Saddle Lake last Monday when they spotted a stolen vehicle.

"Officers followed the vehicle until it stopped and arrested one male. A second male ran into the bushes," according to police. In collaboration with the Emergency Response Team, Cold Lake Police Dog Services, and Air Services, the second male was found and arrested.

"Numerous weapons were seized. Both suspects were held for a judicial hearing," according to information from RCMP.

Cody Travis Waskahat, 39, a resident of Edmonton, has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, unauthorized possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon or restricted weapon, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, and possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon when knowing possession unauthorized.

Following his judicial hearing, Waskahat was released with conditions and is set to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on Jan. 5, 2023.

Cody Anthony Steinhauer, 38, a resident of Saddle Lake, has been charged with flight from peace officer, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, dangerous operation of motor vehicle, and unsafe storage of firearms, along with other charges.

Following his judicial hearing, Steinhauer was remanded into custody, and is set to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on Dec. 22.
