BONNYVILLE - Bonnyville RCMP were dispatched to calls involving a 34-year-old man a number of times over the course of the week.

On Sept. 22 at 10 a.m., a Bonnyville man was charged for operating a motor vehicle while unauthorized.

According to police, “Two hours later RCMP received a complaint that the same male had forced his way inside a residence on the west end of Bonnyville by kicking the door and damaging the door frame.”

The man, who is on conditions not to attend that residence, had been warned earlier in the day to not return to the residence. The individual was located by police and arrested for mischief then was released on an undertaking with a condition not to attend the residence or have contact with the home owner.

The following evening, on Sept. 23 at 8:45 p.m., RCMP members were called to the same residence where they located the 34-year-old man again.

He was arrested again and held for bail hearing whereby a Justice of the Peace released him.

The man’s court date for both criminal matters has been scheduled for Nov. 2.

Fire set

On Sept. 21, the Bonnyville Fire Department alerted RCMP to a fire in a wooded area east of town that appeared to have been deliberately set at about at 3:30 p.m.

Police say, “Evidence at the scene was indicative of copper extraction by way of burning the tubing around it.”

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Bonnyville RCMP or Crime Stoppers.

According to Bonnyville RCMP, “A number of individuals alerted responding members to a male that had just assaulted two people and fled the scene.”

RCMP members conducted a search of the area and located and arrested the suspect.

Following the incident, a 39-year-old man from Cold Lake has been charged with two counts of assault and will remain in custody until his first court appearance on Sept. 27.

The male was brought before a Justice of the Peace and remains in custody.

Theft of truck remains under investigation

On Thursday, a municipal peace officer attempted to stop a grey Ford F150 with upwards of 20 bicycles in the box of the truck. The traffic stop was unsuccessful and the driver fled.

According to Bonnyville RCMP, the driver of the truck was female and the passenger was an older male. The truck was later found abandoned at the 4800 block of 66 St.

Extensive patrols were conducted in the area by RCMP, but the two occupants of the vehicle were not found.

A vehicle check showed that the truck was stolen. The vehicle was subsequently returned to the owner. RCMP did not comment on the state of the bikes.

The matter is still under investigation and anyone with information on either of the occupants described are urged to contact Bonnyville RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
