LA COREY – A search of a La Corey property has resulted in 36 charges, many related to firearms and other weapons, being laid against 47-year-old Jeffery Joseph Fendelet.

With the assistance of the RCMP Emergency Response Team, the Bonnyville RCMP executed a search warrant at a rural residence just North of La Corey shortly after 9 a.m. on June 29.

Police were able to obtain a search warrant following an investigation into a stolen Dodge truck that had been abandoned on Range Road 461 near Twp Rd 632 and reported at 5 a.m. that day. The investigation led investigators to the La Corey residence.

Highway 41 was closed for about five hours while the search warrant was being carried out by police, states an RCMP media release.

The search of the property allegedly uncovered that Fendelet, the owner of the property, was in possession of prohibited and restricted weapons as well as multiple stolen vehicles and vehicle parts.

After the five-hour operation, the Emergency Response Team safely arrested the 47-year-old, says RCMP.

Fendelet is facing 14 firearms related charges, possession of a prohibited weapon or ammunition (x3), and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (x2), as a result of the investigation.

The list of charges includes possession of stolen property over $5,000 (x2), possession of stolen property under $5,000, possession of a controlled substance (x3), possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and unauthorized possession of tobacco products (x2).

The La Corey resident has been additionally charged with setting a trap likely to cause harm, resisting arrest, and six counts of failing to comply with a release order.

In June of 2021, Fendelet had been previously arrested and charged with 16 counts of similar offences by Bonnyville RCMP.

Those matters remain before the courts and have not been resolved.

RCMP points out that one of Fendelet’s release conditions is not to be in possession of firearms or weapons.

Following the arrest of Fendelet on June 29, he was taken to a Judicial Interim Release Hearing for the new charges.

The 47-year-old was remanded into custody until his next appearance on July 5, at Bonnyville Provincial Court.

Fendelet is also set to appear in provincial court on July 19 in relation to his 2021 charges.
