Some residents in St. Paul have reported mailbox break-ins twice in one week.

ST. PAUL - Residents within the Town of St. Paul continue to be victims of mailbox thefts, with break-ins reported last week in a handful of areas.

"We have had three reports of mailbox break-ins over the past two weeks," confirmed Kellieka Formanek, Detachment Services Assistant and Media Relations Officer at the St. Paul Detachment.

She further confirmed it is super boxes located along the street that have been broken into, and "it is typically the larger parcel compartments at the bottom that are targeted, though there are still break-ins to the assigned personal boxes as well."

Formanek says the thefts are not an increase over typical reported thefts, and there are higher reports of mailbox thefts closer to the holiday season.

"There were close to the same number of reports in the last three months as there was in the one month before Christmas last year," explained Formanek.

Police encourage people to continue to report break-ins, and to check their surveillance footage if they have a camera that points toward a mailbox that has been broken into. Residents are also reminded to check their mail boxes regularly in order to reduce the chance that mail will actually be stolen.

"Anyone who notices a mailbox broken into can call the RCMP, and make a report," said Formanek. "We do often get our reports from Canada Post after their mail carriers have completed their route and made note of any damaged boxes."
