Saddle Lake honours New Year's baby with gifts

Maddison Lee-Rose Pine was born in the early hours of Jan. 1, at the St. Paul hospital.

SADDLE LAKE - Maddison Lee-Rose Pine was this year's New Year's baby for the community of Saddle Lake and St. Paul.

Born at the St. Paul hospital on Jan. 1 at about 3:43 a.m., Maddison Lee-Rose was welcomed by mother Sarah Pine and father Benjamin Cardinal. Along with the title of being the New Year's baby, Maddison also received a large assortment of gifts. 

A crib with mattress and bed set, diaper bag with goodies, receiving blankets, sleepers, socks, star blanket, toys, shampoo set, gift cards, breastfeeding pillow, nursing pads, stroller with carrier, jumper, highchair, playpen, baby bouncer, bath tub, diaper cake, box pampers and baby wipes were among the gifts presented to Maddison and her family, according to information provided by the Saddle Lake Health Care Centre.

The Health Care Centre in Saddle Lake traditionally organizes a community celebration, honouring all the babies born over the previous year, along with celebrating the New Year's baby. Due to the pandemic, the 2022 celebration has been postponed. 

"This celebration brings the small families together to socialize and visit one another. We will look forward in the near future to come together as one," reads a media release from the Saddle Lake Health Care Centre. 

Saddle Lake Cree Nation welcomed a total of 53 babies were born in 2021.
