'Secret Service' badge found with firearms in Lac La Biche arrest

Next court date in March for man arrested on firearms complaint

"Secret Service • Special Agent"

That was the writing on the crest of a police badge RCMP say was found — along with a shotgun, a rifle, a handgun, tactical gear and a non-working police scanner — during the arrest of a local man on January 29.

Jessie Dwayne Thiessen, 32, of Lac La Biche was in Lac La Biche Provincial Court on February 7, making a first appearance on charges of pointing a firearm, unsafe storage of a firearm and impersonating a peace officer.

Court heard that Lac La Biche RCMP on a patrol along the Lac La Biche Main Street at around 10:20 pm on January 29 were flagged down by two young adult males. The two said they had just run from outside a downtown businesses where a man had pointed a shotgun at them.

According to police, officers then attended a business, located the suspect and arrested him.

A subsequent search revealed the firearms, tactical gear, metal police badge and police radio.  The radio was determined to be unable to access RCMP digitally-encrypted frequencies.

Police said no one was injured in the incident.

Thiessen has been held in custody since his arrest. His next court appearance will be in Lac La Biche Provincial Court on March 7 for an election of plea.
