St. Paul business community mixes and mingles at Chamber golf tournament

The St. Paul and District Chamber of Commerce held its 2022 Hometown Business Golf Tournament on Sept. 2 during rodeo week festivities.

ST. PAUL – The St. Paul and District Chamber of Commerce held its 2022 Hometown Business Golf Tournament on Sept. 2 during rodeo week festivities. The tournament acts as a fundraiser for the Chamber of Commerce.

“We are a non-profit society, and our main goal is to support businesses and help them market their business, and network and get bigger and better,” says Yvonne Weinmeier, Executive Director of the Chamber. She says the event offers a place for businesses to mix, mingle, and network.

The tournament is also open to the general public to attend. Some businesses put teams together, while some people who simply like to golf also formed their own teams to support the Chamber.

The County of St. Paul was among the many organizations who entered a team in the tournament, with team members reporting they had a great time and thanking the Chamber of Commerce for putting on such a well-run event.

As the tournament wrapped up, there was a tie between the Ryan Small Team and the Century 21 Team for the lowest score. The tie was broken with a chip-off and the Ryan Small Team won first place. Reginald Lamothe’s team won the highest score for the day.

Greg Wright, Food Store Manager with Cornerstone Co-op, echoed Weinmeier’s optimism, stating the event was an opportunity for businesses to network, enjoy rodeo week, and celebrate what the community is all about.

“We’ve been stuck in a virtual world for a couple of years, so now we get a chance to do it in-person,” said Wright.

He also encouraged the public to keep supporting local businesses, stating, “It’s all about our community, St. Paul, and staying local and promoting local... because this is what it’s about in St. Paul.”

Included in the activities at the tournament was a silent auction and the Capella Centre’s 50/50 draw.

The Capella Centre is a family violence prevention non-profit organization, according to Andrea Myers, executive director with the centre. The non-profit operates the Colombus House of Hope family and women’s shelter in St. Paul.

“In conjunction of rodeo weekend and being a member of this Chamber of Commerce, we find this [event] as a great awareness opportunity for the Cappella Centre – we’re doing a 50/50 raffle as well as promoting our organization,” said Myers. People who bought raffle tickets had a chance to win half of the pot prize, while the other half was split between the Chamber of Commerce and the Cappella Centre.

According to Weinmeier, the event was a success.

“I think it’s been a good day, the weather was perfect, and everybody seems to have had a good time.”

The event included over 30 major sponsors, as well as about 50 prize sponsors.
