ST. PAUL - A trailer worth of donations gathered in a very short period of time will become part of a larger collection that will make its way across the ocean, with the intention of helping with humanitarian efforts in Ukraine.
A list of needed items was released by the Town of St. Paul less than 24 hours before the deadline for collection. Items such as wheelchairs, diapers, first aid supplies, feminine hygiene products, oral hygiene products, and other necessities were included on the list - and successfully gathered.
Donation drop offs were scheduled for a longer period of time on Tuesday, and again on Wednesday morning at the Town of St. Paul FCSS & Family Resource Network location.
"It was definitely a team effort between Town departments to pull off a short notice request like this," said Town of St. Paul FCSS Program & Administration Assistant Brenda Billo.
But, working together allowed the Town to set up a delivery location and even offer extended hours for donation drop-offs.
"With the generosity of our community we were able to fill a trailer," added Billo.
The collection was part of a larger initiative that spanned across the province, with a number of drop-off locations also located in the Bonnyville region.
The province-wide collection is being organized by former premier Ed Stelmach and former MLA Thomas Lukaszuk, with the help of the Canadian Polish Historical Society.
