St. Paul Curling Club ready to slide into a new season

ST. PAUL – The St. Paul Curling Club is gearing up for the upcoming winter season.

Troy Bohn, president of the curling club, said the first bonspiel coming up will be held in mid-November. The bonspiel will be a fundraiser for Haying in the 30’s, which he invites the community to join.

Bohn said interested individuals can get involved with the club via online registration.

“We have a link that we send out to our members, and basically, when you get the link, you can go on and register,” he said.

According to Bohn, the club runs different leagues throughout the year. For example, the club runs the Zarowny Motors Superleague on Monday nights. The Superleague “is your more competitive league,” according to Bohn.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the club offers its Open League.

On Wednesdays, senior and junior leagues hit the rink. Senior Leagues also run in Fridays, and “we also throw in a mixed League typically on a Wednesday.”

Bohn said the club is fortunate to have a lot of members coming back, in addition to returning sponsors. “So, that’s a really big help.”

The club is hoping most of last year’s curlers will return to the rink for the 2022/23 season

“We would be happy to get the same amount of members as we had last year to return this year,” he said, adding, he also hopes for more memberships in the junior league.

Bohn said the club’s junior program has fluctuated in the past few years, and the club is hoping to get stronger interest from the youngest curlers this year.

“We also had a pretty good turnout for a lot of our bonspiels we hosted last year,” said Bohn. “So, we’re hoping that we can get some of the same turnout, if not more than last year.”

"We’re pretty excited to get going again and get things rolling.”

The St. Paul Curling Rink is located next to the St. Paul Recreation Centre and includes six sheets of ice.
