St. Paul FCSS drive-by trick or treat event draws in hundreds

The St. Paul FCSS had over 900 individuals stop by during its drive-by trick-or-treat event on Oct. 31.

ST. PAUL – Driving by the Recreation Centre on Oct. 31, individuals were greeted with blasting music and colourful disco lights during the free drive-by trick-or-treat event, hosted by St. Paul Regional Family & Support Services (FCSS).

FCSS staff and volunteers from the St. Paul Youth Council (SPYC) gave away bags of treats to children who walked by, as well as families who drove by in their cars. According to Lynn Smid, director of FCSS, over 900 individuals stopped by the Recreation Centre, compared to 700 individuals last year.

“It was good, and we’re just very thankful for all the businesses and organizations who donated to make this event possible,” said Smid. She said the donations allowed FCSS staff and young volunteers, including the Community Awareness Team from Racette Jr. High School, to prepare around 650 treat bags this year.

Helmon Ndose, a member with the SPYC, said during the event that he was happy to be able to see such a big turnout of people out with their families.

The FCSS is now looking forward to other upcoming initiatives, including Fall Prevention Month for older adults and senior, with events scheduled to take place on Nov. 8 and Nov. 10. In addition, FCSS will also be promoting Family Violence Awareness Month in November.
