ST. PAUL – Halloween is inching closer, and children are waiting in anticipation for the opportunity to don their costumes and knock on doors to collect sweet treats.

In the spirit of the season, St. Paul Family and Community Services (FCSS) and Family Resource Network (FRN) will once again be offering plenty of treats to those who stop by the St. Paul Recreation Centre on Oct. 31.

From 5 to 7 p.m., children and members of the community can swing by to collect a bag of treats, courtesy donations from local businesses, organizations, and community members.

Kim Ouellette, FRN coordinator, explained the safe and sweet Halloween will once again be done in a drive-through style, and she encourages everyone to take time to stop by the Rec Centre to grab a treat.

Community members, businesses, or organizations who are still interested in contributing either monetary donations or treats can stop by the St. Paul FCSS office.

Laser tag

New to this year’s Halloween celebrations will be an activity event aimed at youth in Grades 7 and up. Starting at 6:30 p.m., “we're going to have a laser tag happening inside the Recreation Centre,” said Ouellette.

Registration is required ahead of time and the cost of laser tag is $10 per player. Organizers estimate the laser tag will run for about two hours.

“We did do laser tag a [few] years ago, pre-COVID, and it was very successful. We did have some youth interested in it returning so we’ve booked it again,” said Ouellette, adding the St. Paul Youth Council will be helping with the event.

Seniors

And not to leave out seniors who may also want to celebrate Halloween, on Oct. 31 at 10 a.m. St. Paul Family Resource Network and St. Paul Municipal Library will be partnering to read a Halloween story and do crafts with residents at Sunnyside Manor.

“So, we’re encouraging little ones along with their parents or caregivers to dress up,” said Ouellette. “We’re excited to have this intergenerational program.”
