St. Paul gets in the Halloween spirit

A couple of separate activities were held last weekend on Oct. 29 in St. Paul, in anticipation of Halloween.

ST. PAUL – A couple of separate activities were held last weekend on Oct. 29 in St. Paul, getting parents and their children into the spirit of Halloween.

In the morning, at the St. Paul Municipal Library's "Costume Party Story-time with Ms. Zimmerman," children listened to the funny and spooky story of Creepy Crayon! by Aaron Reynolds.

"Today, Monique [Poulin] and I are reading Creepy Crayon by one of my favourite authors," said Amanda Zimmerman with the St. Paul Municipal Library, who is also an author herself. "Then after the story-time, the kids will take home a craft - a creepy crayon of their own to make."

While the children were dressed up in Halloween costumes, "It's nice to see that some of the parents dressed up as well," said Zimmerman.

Jerred Moore, who came with his family dressed up as ketchup, said cheerfully that "we love to read, we love to read, and we love to read!"

"So, we came here when we heard that Ms. Zimmerman was doing extra special stuff here and we're very impressed with all her craft," said Moore. "So, that was an extra bit of fun - plus we're in costumes."

Clayton Vandyke also participated with his family, who said his daughter, Bronwyn, loves to read and dress up. "When you put the two together... she was super excited," he said.

Cornerstone Co-op Pumpkin Painting Event

The Cornerstone Co-op also had its own free Halloween event in the afternoon where children painted pumpkins, and "just have fun," according to Rachelle Lajoie, Cornerstone Co-op produce manager.

When asked why community engagement is important for the local Co-op, she said, "being engaged with our community is a big part of what Cornerstone is all about."

Pam Skoreyko, was among the parents. She brought her two children to share in the fun.

She said she also appreciates Cornerstone Co-op giving back to the community and wished to give her support, "especially having a young family."
