St. Paul Royal Canadian Legion bids the Queen farewell

The St. Paul Royal Canadian Legion Branch 100, whose patron and sponsor is Queen Elizabeth II, mourned the passing of the Queen on Sept. 19.

ST. PAUL – People around the globe bid Queen Elizabeth II farewell the morning of Sept. 19, with a state funeral taking place in London that same day.

Queen Elizabeth II was laid to rest with her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, alongside her father King George VI, and mother Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and her sister Princess Margaret, according to the Royal Family.

The Royal Canadian Legion of Canada, whose patron and sponsor is Queen Elizabeth II, also mourned the passing of the Queen.

Locally, the St. Paul Legion Branch 100 completed a ceremonial laying of the wreath at the St. Paul cenotaph, and words of acknowledgment were spoken about the Queen’s contribution to Canada.

According to Duane Fleming, first vice president for the St. Paul Legion, with the Queen as the sponsor and patron of the Legion it means “she’s the main person for our 300 charities throughout the world and 36 that are specific to Canada.”

“She's been around for 70 years as our matriarch - longer than I've been alive,” said Fleming. “I've had the utmost respect for her and what she's done for Canada."
