St. Paul skatepark grand opening celebrates years of hard work

ST. PAUL - The St. Paul BMX and Skatepark held a grand opening event on Sept. 19, drawing in a variety of people to the community celebration.

While the park has been open to the public throughout the summer months, Saturday's event included speeches, a ribbon cutting, and other attractions, such as a trick competition.

A key focus behind the construction of the skatepark has been mental health, and offering youth in the community a safe and healthy place to be, while also getting physical activity. A number of skateboarders, BMX bikers and kids on scooters took turns on the concrete park, Saturday afternoon.

See Tuesday's edition of Lakeland This Week for more coverage from the grand opening event.

*Organizers also offered a reminder on Saturday that helmets are mandatory at the park.
