Suspect shot during home invasion in Saddle Lake

SADDLE LAKE - A home invasion in Saddle Lake resulted in a suspect being shot during the Jan. 11 incident, according to RCMP.

At 10:30 p.m., St. Paul RCMP responded to a firearms complaint in Saddle Lake Cree Nation. Police attended a residence where firearms were discharged during a home invasion. 

"No residents were injured, however one of the suspects is believed to have received a gunshot wound during the event and was taken to a nearby hospital," according to RCMP. "The investigation is still on going and several charges have been laid at this time."

"Although this was serious incident, we do not believe that the general public was at risk as this is believed to be a targeted offence," said Sgt. David Graham with St. Paul RCMP. "As always, our priority is ensuring public safety in the communities we police."

Byron Crane, 37, of Saddle Lake was charged with discharge firearm with intent, unauthorized possession of a firearm, breaking and entering with intent, disguised with intent to commit offence, and weapons possession contrary to order (x2). Crane was remanded following a judicial hearing and is scheduled to appear in St. Paul Provincial Cour today (Jan. 14).

Louise Whiskeyjack, 43, of Saddle Lake was charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and possession of controlled substance (crystal meth). Whiskeyjack was released following a judicial hearing and is scheduled to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on Feb. 4.

Jenny Badger, 21, of Saddle Lake was charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of controlled substance, and fail to comply with release order condition (x3).

Badger was released following a judicial hearing and is also scheduled to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court today.
