FROG LAKE - While RCMP continue to investigate an incident in the community of Frog Lake, a heavy police presence that began on Monday has ended, although some officers do remain in the area.

An update by police was released on Tuesday. The update explained that on Dec. 13 at about 11:51 a.m., Bonnyville RCMP responded to a break and enter in progress where a homeowner interrupted suspects who pointed a gun at the homeowner.

"The suspects then fled the scene in a vehicle that was later located by police. Police attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, however, it failed to stop for police," according to RCMP.

A tire deflation device was deployed near Frog Lake First Nations, which resulted in the suspects abandoning the vehicle and fleeing into a nearby field.

"Efforts to contain the suspects and locate them were undertaken with additional resources being deployed."

RCMP resources from Bonnyville, Kitscoty, Elk Point and Cold Lake Detachments; St. Paul RCMP Traffic Services, the Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team, Alberta RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit (for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle reconnaissance), St. Paul and Cold Lake RCMP Police Dog Services, Alberta RCMP Graphic Services and Saskatchewan RCMP officers from Onion Lake, Sask., all responded to the incident.

The school in Frog Lake was in hold and secure until about 5:30 p.m. on Monday evening due to the incident.

RCMP resources supervised the evacuation and loading of buses, as students and staff were relocated to the Frog Lake band office where they were reunified with family, according to RCMP.

"The strong police presence scaled down with the departure of RCMP Emergency Response Team at approximately 6 p.m. (Monday)," according to the update.

During the police investigation, a firearm was recovered as well as other evidence. A 25-year-old female was arrested and she remains in custody, according to police.

The school reopened on Tuesday, operating as normal.

RCMP thanked the public and the media for assistance in the incident. Bonnyville RCMP General Investigation Section has taken over the investigation.
