BONNYVILLE – At the Beginning of January, RCMP executed a search warrant at the residence of a 44-year-old man from Bonnyville who was at the center of a 10-month long sexual assault investigation.
As a result of the investigation, Christopher Brian Godfrey was arrested on Jan. 13 and initially charged with sexual assault, fraud over $5,000 and extortion.

Prior to Godfrey’s first court appearance on Jan. 26, Bonnyville RCMP laid additional charges – this time involving two counts of criminal harassment, along with another count of fraud and extortion as a result of allegations made by additional victims.
The four additional charges were laid on Jan. 25.
Following Godfrey’s arrest, RCMP released his full name, age, physical appearance, as well as aliases known to have been used by the accused. This was to allow other potential victims to come forward to police, according to comments made to Lakeland This Week by RCMP Cpl. Shawn Morgan.
Godfrey allegedly used various aliases online to gain access to multiple victims and to commit sexual offences against them, say police.
Due to a publication ban, RCMP are unable to release any additional information on the matter.
On Jan. 26, Godfrey made his first court appearance where following a judicial hearing he was released with additional conditions.
As a condition of his release, Godfrey is not to possess any weapons, he is not to have a computer in his home, and he is to only use the telephone function on his mobile phone with an exception for work purposes.
Godfrey is scheduled to appear in Bonnyville Provincial Court on Feb. 22.
Bonnyville RCMP continue to investigate and seek more information from people who may have been victimized by Godfrey or accounts under his known aliases of “Lucas Kennedy” or “Lucas Jacknife.”
Anyone with information on this matter is encouraged to contact the Bonnyville RCMP at 780-826-3358 or their local police service.
