BONNYVILLE – On Friday evening, a tow truck operator attending a call on the side of Highway 28 near Range Road 482 was struck by a passing vehicle.

Around 7:15 p.m. on Friday, Fire crews, EMS and RCMP were called out to a three-vehicle collision involving a tow truck and two pickups.

“On arrival, they discovered that no vehicles had actually collided,” Regional Fire Chief Dan Heney explained.

According to the fire chief, a tow truck operator had been responding to a roadside call to assist a vehicle and while he was hooking up to a pickup truck, he was struck by a passing vehicle.

“Another passerby came along and assumed that everything was the result of a multi-vehicle collision and called 911,” Heney told Lakeland Today.

The condition of the tow truck driver is unknown, but he was transported by EMS to the Bonnyville Healthcare Centre.

Lakeland This Week attempted to contact the Bonnyville RCMP detachment to inquire if charges have been laid in the incident, but no information was made available.
