Town approves agreements with arena concession caterers

ST. PAUL - While many events and leagues are cancelled for the spring and summer months, plans continue to move ahead for the fall and winter seasons.

At the June 8 regular council meeting, Town of St. Paul council approved two agreements with caterers for both arenas in town.

First, the CAP Arena Concession application from PS Catering was approved, and changed to a three-year agreement. The total tender is $3,600 plus GST. PS Catering has been doing the concession at the CAP Arena in the past.

For the Clancy Richard Arena, it was once again the same caterer as last year that wants to return for 2020/21 hockey season. J&B Concession's proposal is for $5,200 plus gst for the 2020/21 winter season. The previous contract the town had with J&B Concession for 2018/19 and 2019/20 was for $8,600 plus gst per year, heard council.

"They are lowering their bid this year because they are concerned with the current restrictions and economic state and they may not have good economical opportunities," said CAO Kim Heyman. The CAO supported the idea of having flexibility if a full season doesn't occur.

"We can't expect her to pay if the place is going to be empty," said Heyman.

A motion to amend the Clancy Arena application from J&B Concession as presented for the 2020/21 winter season, leaving open the ability to open the contract, was approved.
