Town to seek permission to convert back alley into green space for Bonnylodge

The Town of Bonnyville is seeking approval from Alberta Transportation to close and transform a portion of back alley into a greenspace for Bonnylodge.

BONNYVILLE – Town of Bonnyville council is hoping that Alberta Transporation will approve the closure of a portion of a back lane behind 4802-47th Ave.

If approved, the Town intends to turn the closed portion of the alley into a green space for the residents of the Bonnylodge. The facility sits adjacent to the dead-end alleyway, according to CAO Bill Rogers.

At the March 22 regular council meeting, council passed a motion directing administration to request the road closure with the provincial department that oversees road closures.

During the meeting, Rogers also informed council that no opposition to the road closure had been received by neighbouring landowners.

Coun. Byron Johnson added that in its current state, a portion of the back lane serves no beneficial purpose to surrounding residents but could be better utilized by the community if it is turned over to the seniors’ lodge.

If the Town receives approval from Alberta Transportation, council will move forward with a Road Closure Bylaw that will see the portion of the alleyway converted into greenspace and turned over to Bonnylodge.
