Toys fill police truck for annual Bargain Shop Christmas drive

Lac La Biche's RCMP 'sleigh' collects part of $675,000 raised Canada-wide

LAC LA BICHE - Lac La Biche RCMP and customers at Lac La Biche's Bargain Shop helped to fill a police truck full of toys and fill the hopes of disadvantaged families across the county at a recent Christmas charity event.

The annual Fill A Sleigh Day - a corporate-wide event held Dec. 9 at all Red Apple and Bargain Shop locations across Canada - saw thousands of dollars in local donations and dozens of presents collected for local families. The special day, which also sees the stores donate five per cent of the day's sales to local charities, raises hundreds of thousands of dollars and collects thousands of toys for families in the 150 communities where Red Apple and Bargain Shops operate.

This year, the Lac La Biche collection was part of $675,000 in toys and gifts collected in the one-day campaign across the country. An additional donation of almost $64,000 will be made to charitable organizations by the campaign organizers.

"A heartfelt thank you to our amazing customers who generously contributed to the success of our annual Fill-A-Sleigh day," noted a corporate social media post. "Your kindness and compassion have made a significant difference in spreading love and cheer during this festive time."
