Two arrested after fleeing police near Vilna

VILNA - A Lac La Biche man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant is behind bars following his arrest Saturday and has added a number of charges to his file.

Smoky Lake RCMP were responding to a report of a liquor theft and located the suspect's vehicle, which proceeded to flee westbound on Highway 28. RCMP did not pursue due to safety concerns. A short time, later the SUV ended up in a ditch after nearly colliding with another vehicle, according to an RCMP press release issued today. The suspect male was arrested and taken into custody. A female who was also involved with this incident was located nearby and arrested.

Cody Patrick Hardy, 27, of Lac La Biche was charged with eight Criminal Code offences including: theft under $5,000, flight from peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operating a vehicle while prohibited, failure or refusal to comply with breath screening demand, operating while impaired, failure to stop after and accident, and resisting a peace officer. At the time of his arrest Hardy was wanted on a Canada wide warrant for failing to comply with his parole and a separate warrant out of Lac La Biche for dangerous driving of a motor vehicle. He was remanded into custody and will be appearing in Fort Saskatchewan Provincial Court on March 26 for the new charges and March 30 via CCTV in Lac La Biche Provincial Court for the warrant. 

Tamra Hardy, 32, of Lac La Biche was charged with: theft under $5,000, flight from a peace officer and causing a disturbance. She was released after a judicial hearing and will be appearing in Fort Saskatchewan Provincial Court on March 8, 2020.
