BONNYVILLE – In the early morning of Feb. 22, a business owner contacted police to inform them that that two unknown people were in his compound and that there was a vehicle stuck in the snow.
The owner further advised RCMP that there should be no one on the premises and that those on the property were not employees, according to a press release from RCMP.
After receiving the call at 4:15 a.m., Bonnyville RCMP members attended the scene immediately and located a man and a woman on the inside of the gated compound with a vehicle that had become stuck.
As it was a gated compound, it is unlikely that anyone could have mistakenly driven in, according to the business owner who contacted police.
Both individuals found at the scene were arrested for breaking and entering.
The 28-year-old woman from Cold Lake was found to have methamphetamine on her person, enough to qualify for trafficking, say police.
She was charged with breaking and entering, possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking and failing to comply with a release order.
The 38-year-old male from Cold Lake was charged with breaking and entering, and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.
Both accused are set to appear in Bonnyville Provincial Court on March 22.
Stolen vehicle from Fort Saskatchewan located in Kehewin
Earlier in the week, Bonnyville RCMP recovered a stolen vehicle from Fort Saskatchewan and arrested two people while attending another matter at a residence in Kehewin.
At the residence, RCMP members noted a vehicle running on the property with two people inside.
“When asked what they were doing there, the female occupant told the member they had just purchased the vehicle and provided her name,” according to police.
A further investigation determined the licence plate on the vehicle was stolen in Bonnyville and the vehicle itself had been stolen from Fort Saskatchewan.
Police also discovered the woman had lied about her identity.
The 33-year-old woman from Saddle Lake was charged with two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000 and obstruction.
She was released from custody by a Justice of the Peace to appear in Bonnyville Provincial Court on March 17.
The other occupant, a 35-year-old man from Edmonton, was found to be on probation and was charged with two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, two counts of failing to comply with probation, and one count of failing to comply with a release order.
He is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court on March 1.
Stolen items recovered from Bonnyville residence
A local business had reported a break-in sometime overnight on Feb. 22 with various items being stolen.
“The owner of the company called RCMP early the next morning to report it and assisted in the investigation by providing the location at which one of the stolen items was pinging to on GPS,” police say.
The lead investigator sought a search warrant for that property and a Justice of the Peace approved a warrant for the property later that day.
Members of the Bonnyville RCMP and Lakeland Crime Reduction Unit attended the address located on the corner of 45 Ave. and 46 St. and executed the search warrant, which resulted in the arrest of two men, one of whom lied about his identity, according to RCMP.
A search of the residence further resulted in the recovery of most of the property stolen from the break and enter.
A 34-year-old man from Frog Lake has been charged with breaking and entering a business, possession of stolen property under $5,000 and obstruction.
A 32-year-old man from Bonnyville has been charged with possession of stolen property.
Lakeland Today is waiting to hear back on the accused individuals’ court dates.
