U.F.O. Sams celebrate a quarter century as a club

Members of the U.F.O. Sams RV club reminisced about the past and shared their tales of traveling across the country during a 25th anniversary celebration on Sept. 21.

ST. PAUL – Members of the U.F.O. Sams RV club reminisced about the past and shared their tales of traveling across the country during a 25th anniversary celebration on Sept. 21.

The U.F.O. Sams make up the Alberta Good Sam RV Club’s chapter based in St. Paul.

Jane Dykeman, Secretary with the U.F.O. Sams, said the RV club has traveled together to places like Alaska and all across Canada. The club is composed of members who share an interest and passion of “living and loving the RV life.”

According to Dykeman, even just within Alberta, the province is filled with unique sights and experiences.

“We have learned to meet new people and see a lot of things in Alberta we never normally would have seen,” said Dykeman. “We have some people that don’t get to come very often anymore because they’ve either moved away or are in seniors’ facility.”

There are members who also live far from St. Paul, according to Dykeman, so “it’s nice to gather again.” Dykeman likened the celebration akin to a reunion, allowing members to catch up with one another.

“We love getting together and we haven’t had our monthly meetings,” she said, explaining the pandemic did not allow the club to meet as it normally did. “We either have potlucks or just a gathering and have fun,” she explained.

Since the inception of the club in the summer of 1996, Dykeman said that “unfortunately, some of us have had to give up our RVs.” However, that doesn’t mean members of the club cannot reminisce about the past and “enjoy the wonderful and hilarious stories that we can share with each other.”
