VILNA - The Vilna & District Municipal Library is hoping to share the love of reading with others by giving away over 1,500 books before the end of 2022.

According to Rebeka Harakal, the Vilna & District Municipal Library Manager, staff and volunteers at the library "weed through the books each year as part of the yearly inventory." The books that are no longer circulating are "sadly retired, so there is room for new titles."

And while it may be sad to pull the books from the shelves, it means they can be rediscovered and given away to those who will appreciate them.

"Currently, the library has mainly young adult and adult books left looking for new homes. These books cover both non-fiction and fiction and the many genres within each. Management and staff would love to see these books find good homes with avid readers to continue enjoying them for years to come," says Harakal, adding, "Whether that be to an individual person, local clubs, or even lodges who are in need."

Harakal encourages everyone to stop by the library and browse through the different books available,  while also enjoying a coffee or tea and visiting with library staff.

Other than trying to find new homes for the retired books, the Vilna & District Municipal Library is working on creating more programs for all ages within the library to better serve the community and will be "planning some fun events to end the year with positive energy going into 2023," says the library manager.

Details on programs or events offered by the Vilna Library can be found through the library's website.
