LAKELAND - A youth will have to appear in court after Redwater RCMP conducted a traffic stop on Highway 28 where a driver was reportedly going 145 km/hour in a construction zone.

On July 12, RCMP were conducting patrols when they noticed a car driving at a high rate of speed in the construction zone on Highway 28 in Thordhild County.

"RCMP officers were able to use their radar to determine that the vehicle was going at 145 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. A traffic stop was initiated, revealing a 17-year-old youth behind the wheel," reads information  from RCMP.

“We want to take a moment to remind the public of the dangers of driving at a high rate of speed, especially in construction zones,” said Cpl. Dillon Vahey of the Redwater RCMP. “Though no workers were present this time, the story could have been much different had workers been on site and at risk."

"A ticket for exceeding maximum highway speed in construction zone was issued," reads the information from RCMP.

He will be summoned to the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort Saskatchewan on Aug. 14.
