As the 2016 Wheatland Football League season nears, the St. Paul Lions and Bengals Football programs will be entering the league with a menacing new look.

While summer has people thinking about beating the heat, Northeast Alberta Track and Field (NEAT) athletes pushed the heat up a few notches as they traveled to Regina, Sask. to compete against the top youth in the Tri-Prov Western Canadian Champions.

For the first time in many years, a group of volunteers hosted a slo-pitch tournament in St. Paul this past weekend, with 24 local teams taking over diamonds across town.

It is not uncommon for sports to travel across the world and be enjoyed by new players. Hockey originated in Canada, and there are national teams all across Europe.

Over the weekend, there were three St. Paul Minor Ball teams involved in the final rounds of provincials. Each team had high hopes after working hard all season. The Peewee boys competed for provincial glory in Clive, Alta.

Tyler Sundt and Scott Labrie were some of a handful of locals who simply could not wait to reconnect with their childhood, and try out the new Pokémon Go game.

Gold is once again pouring into Bonnyville, with another softball team claiming victory at provincial championships on July 1-3. The Bonnyville Angels U16 softball club won gold in Leduc after calming the Red Deer Rage 12-7.

Two of Bonnyville's youth soccer clubs won big this month, but not as big as they hoped for.

This year’s Alberta Summer Games took place in Leduc over the weekend, with many St. Paul and area athletes travelling to the games to represent Zone 7. The athletes participated in a wide range of events, including team and individual sports.

The hard work and dedication of the CAP Arena’s founders continues to pay off today, with The Co-operators recognizing and honouring those founding efforts with $40,000 to help with a facelift for the town’s second arena.
