The St. Paul Golf Club’s members were undaunted by the brief showers, and strong winds, during the annual club championship on Aug. 17.

Members of all ages played in the 18-hole challenge under a changing Sunday sky, with weather and winds occasionally making a challenging environment for play.

Local world long drive champion Jamie Sadlowski was among the members to play in the tournament, and ended up claiming the title of overall club champion.

“It was a good game. I was a late entry because I was out of town for a couple of weeks, and got called in to play this morning. It’s always good when you get all the members together. Everyone has fun regardless of how they play,” said Sadlowski.

The tournament was divided into divisions that included championship flight, mens flight, ladies flight, junior boys, junior girls, and the seniors division.

Sophie Pasitney, the junior girls division champion, was enthusiastic about her game, having shot a 210-yard drive at the age of 12. She, being the only participant in the junior girls category, played with participants in the ladies division, and outdrove her adult teammates.

“It was really fun today. It was exciting to make that drive. I will definitely be doing other tournaments. There should be more junior girls playing golf in general,” said Pasitney.

Brian Herperger, another tournament participant, said he enjoyed the day overall.

“The greens were in nice shape. I played okay, and enjoyed it. I shot three over my handicap, so it was alright.”

And despite not playing as well as he would have liked, Henri Desaulniers echoed similar sentiments.

“It was a tough one, I got a few too many strokes, but I played through. It was a fun day, and the weather was nice when I was playing. There was a bit of rain, but it blew over pretty quickly, and it was an enjoyable day,” said Desaulniers.
